The Secret Life of a Soccer mom

Did anyone else catch this show on TLC tonight? Did anyone else feel like vomiting after doing so??
I found this show so completely degrading to Stay at Home Moms everywhere. Basically, it takes a Stay at Home mom and puts her in her "dream career" for a week while dad tends to the kids. At the end of the show, they offer the mom a full time position, as if what she is doing at home is unimportant. The whole time they are talking about how she has sacrificed her life to be home with her kids. I am sorry, but I don't feel like it's a sacrifice to raise my children.
Yes, I did put my career dreams aside so I can raise my children, but you know what?? It was the best damn decision I ever made! And I would do it again in a heartbeat, AND I respect and admire any woman who does this for their children. The best gift you can give your children is your presence. I sincerely believe that. Now, this is not to say that if you do have a career that you are a neglectful parent. There are many reasons why both parents need to work. But DAMN! This television program made it seem that those of us who choose to stay home are doing a disservice to ourselves. What about our children?? I didn't have three children just so I can pawn them off on someone else. I CHOSE to have three children so that I can raise them and love them and give them security day in and day out. Sure, maybe I put my career on hold, but mark my words: I am absolutely LIVING MY DREAM. And, I am positive that my children will thank me for it someday.

Well, I must be a complete loser because I chose to be a stay-at-home mom and never even HAD career dreams, lol! The 7 years I worked before having ds, I'd daydream about relaxing days at the park w/my kids and even mundane errands. Maybe I have low aspirations, but this is exactly where I've wanted to be my entire life. After they're grown a bit, who knows. But I have never felt I've given up anything to be home w/my kids. It's tough some days, but I'd rather deal w/the toughness that comes w/raising my kids than the toughness of working with complete morons. Unless it was in Scranton, PA. Then I'd look forward to going to work every freaking day just to make fun of Michael Scott.

I didn't get to see it, but I thought the exact thing you are saying after just seeing the ad! How rude is that to lure them on t.v. and then offer them their dream job - so did they go to work the next day and take their kids to daycare. Whose genius idea was that?

Good grief, yes it's a sacrifice to stay at home - sacrificing those extras that a second income would buy (vacations, clothes, new cars, and other flashy crap that somehow we live without.) I could go back to work tomorrow, but I'd rather be home with my babies - even if we have to live on Mac N' Cheese and pinto beans.

Being a stay at home mom is the most undervalued job in society. WE are suppose to want to work outside of the home. It is such a ME center way of thinking. It is such a crappy way to view motherhood. Like its the worse burden ever instead of the greatest joy. Not to say its hard its very hard.

I think it was great that she got a chance to do what she "gave up" for her kids.
But, personally, I love being home with my kids. I'm in school and will one day go back to work, but right now, while the kids are little, I'm right where I need to be.

I always wanted to be a mom. That's it. I am doing what I've always wanted to do, and I couldn't be happier!

AMEN SISTA! yeah i am a stay at home mom becuase that is all i ever wanted to be. sure it would be rad to have a career. but why would i have all these kids for someone else to raise. if i had a million dollars, i wouldn't have a nanny, I'd have a maid. so i could spend more time having fun with my kids. i didn't see it but i could imagine. the only job I'd ever have is the kind i could have while my kids are in school but i don't have time to go to school becuase I'm taking care of my kids.

yeah that show would bug me.

Yeah...I am going to school at night (one class a semester) to be a preschool teacher so when I do go back to work, it will be on my children's schedule.

I totally agree! I wouldn't want someone else raising my boys. Yes, sometimes it's a frustrating job, but I wouldn't trade it. We work harder at home taking care of children.
